Personally right when I start a fort a have a mechanic begin training by building mechanisms on repeat up until the first trade caravan and then export all of my non-masterwork mechanisms. A good idea for the first caravan is to get an anvil (if you didn't bring one on embark) and then take all of their food and booze.ģ) It lets you get rid of a whole lot of useless stuff that is sitting around your fortress. Such as importing wood if your not in a very heavy forest, or leather. Trading benefits you in three major ways:ġ) The more you export the more immigrants come to your fortress followed by eventually a baron or the monarch.Ģ) It allows you to fill holes in your resources. You need a trading depot (Capital D in the build menu) and a broker (a noble that you assign). Trading occurs when a caravan arrives, the first one comes at the end of autumn of the first year. The other way to get plump helmet spawn is from plump helmets themselves, when a plump helmet is brewed or eaten raw (not cooked) it leaves a seed behind. There are two ways to get plump hemlet spawn for a new fortress, first is to bring it on embark, which the vast majority of pre-made embark profiles have. Eventually, my weaponsmith hit legendary, and I ended up with quite a few masterwork giant axe blades that I didn't melt, so as to not piss him off too much.Įach masterwork giant bronze axe blade is worth about 3.5k. Giant axe blades give the best return of melted metal to metal that originally goes in. I set my weaponsmith to training by cranking out giant bronze axe blades, and had the furnace operators melt them all back down.
